Eco‑Innovation via Open Educational Resources in VET

The ENNEPlus project is transforming Vocational Education and Training (VET) across Europe by harnessing Open Educational Resources (OERs) to drive eco-innovation and digital transformation. Central to this mission is its Community of Practice (CoP), a dynamic, multilingual platform where educators and learners can access, adapt, and contribute high-quality educational materials aligned with the European Green Deal and the UN 2030 Agenda.

ENNEPlus has developed 10 Challenge-Based Learning Scenarios (CBLS) tackling real-world ecological and sustainability challenges, ranging from water scarcity and biodiversity to circular economy, green construction, and short food supply chains. Each scenario is supported by curated OERs including videos, case studies, toolkits, articles, and interactive tools, sourced from international initiatives and open-access databases. These materials are freely available, fully adaptable, and designed to be inclusive and accessible to all types of learners.

For example, the scenario on Green Construction includes resources on sustainable architecture, energy efficiency, and eco-materials, while the one on Protecting Biodiversity in Renewable Energy Power Plants introduces learners to bioacoustics and nature-based monitoring tools. All content is aligned with European competence frameworks such as GreenComp, DigComp, and EntreComp, ensuring that learners acquire not just technical know-how, but also transversal and future-proof skills.

A standout application of these resources is the Eco‑Digithon, a collaborative digital hackathon where students and teachers work together, supported by mentors and local stakeholders, to co-design solutions to local environmental issues. The event demonstrates the power of OERs and CBLS in fostering creativity, teamwork, and real-world impact.

What sets ENNEPlus apart is the participatory and evolving nature of its ecosystem. The CoP platform is not just a repository, but a collaborative learning environment with national chapters and thematic hubs. Educators can not only use and adapt existing resources but also submit their own, helping to expand and enrich the collection for the benefit of the wider VET community.
